Future Fertility – 2 February
Based in Toronto, Future Fertility is a Canadian med-tech company developing AI-based solutions in the area of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). They currently offer a non-invasive image analysis tool called Violet™, that visually assesses the probability of a female egg (oocyte) to successfully fertilize and reach a blastocyst-stage embryo. Their product helps with clinical decision making, improves live birth outcomes, and provides individualized feedback to patients around the world.
Future Fertility’s software can and should be used for any type of egg retrieval, independently from the subsequent use for egg freezing, IVF cycle, or donor egg bank. This gives additional information about the egg which plays a dominant role in the equation of IVF. There is no other company that can offer this personalized type of assessment, considering the eggs of the women undergoing this treatment. So far, clinics work with statistical graphs and historical data, giving their patients average values about their fertility.
Many clinics and customers alike have expressed enthusiasm for a product that can help provide a quality assessment and scoring of eggs. In late 2020, Future Fertility signed their first customers. They are up and running in Vancouver, Toronto, and Chicago, with their next installations in Dallas, Montreal, São Paulo, Tokyo, and London, UK.
Their biggest hurdle is quickly establishing third party sales and service partnerships to best serve their clients.
Having previously raised 1.7 million CAD through a friends and family round of funding, Future Fertility is now raising 3 to 6 million USD; the funding will mostly be used for R&D to improve accuracy and customer experience. They are also looking to expand their sales and marketing team, and expect their team to grow to 30 people by the end of 2021. Additional teams will be set up in Europe and Japan.

Future Fertility is a B2B2C (Business to Business to Customer) company addressing fertility clinics as well as women/couples who will ask for this technology as a part of their fertility treatment. While the patient is not the direct customer of Future Fertility, they see a need to keep them informed about their options when it comes to egg assessment. Their business model is SaaS-based. The IVF clinic pays per report that is given out to patients.
